Fur Patterning & Design
Rootlings bear the likeness of earthly animals.
Coloration
Rootlings bear the colors found in nature. You will not see them in neon, extra bright, or unnatural pigments. However, the colors and patterns of the fur are mostly dependent on which animal species are included in the form. As a general rule, rootling palettes are soft, opaque, earthy, and naturalistic. They are representative of their stem animals. If you are using a stem animal with brighter, more abrasive colors, you can soften or mellow them down. They may still appear as bright hues, but more balanced and gentle to look at. The rootling's lumesse will always be the brightest and most saturated part of the design. Eye Markings
As a reminder, rootling eyes and their markings are the most important part of the design. The markings around the eyes can be any hue so long as they are lighter and paler than the surrounding area. They should be bright and easily distinguishable from the surrounding colors. |
Patterns & Markings Many species of animals have a wide array of markings to choose from. If your rootling is crossed with a fox you might choose markings from red foxes, marbled, silver, fennec, or any of the others. This is the case for every design! For a coronation or creation with no special additions you can choose from any existing trait that appears on the species included in your design. It is also acceptable to choose one animal for the anatomy, and another for the markings. If your fur patterning doesn't appear across your species, or it doesn't appear at all in nature, it will be considered a "unique marking" and require either a temple birth, or to be gained later through lumesse points as a folktale trait. If you have designed using fur patterns that are rare or obscure, but DO appear on one of your root species in nature, please provide reference images in the design review. |
Runic Markings
Runes are the only markings rootlings can have that will glow. These are special markings that can be gained if the rootling performs a coronation, or temple creation. The runic markings will always glow the same color as the lumesse magic. The lumesse flame(s), eyes, and runes should all match in color. If your rootling performs a coronation it will have the option of forming a rune on its body, and this rune is fully designed by the player.
