How to Obtain Rootlings
Different ways to get rootling characters all collected onto one page
Very First / Starter
There are two ways in which a player may obtain their very first rootling character. The first is through a piece of artwork based on a coronation trial prompt. With this option the player chooses one of the trial prompts to base their artwork on, and this is the beginning of their rootling's story. A starter rootling's coronation does not cost any lumesse points to perform, so any player may offer their existing rootling to perform the coronation for no charge. This only applies to the first rootling a player owns. The second case is when a player begins the game with a pre-made rootling character. This design may have been purchased, gifted, won, or traded to the player.

Coronation
A coronation occurs when an animal is crowned with lumesse to become a new rootling. Coronation art should be based on one of the coronation trial prompts, and it should show us why this animal of all animals got to be elevated to a spirit guardian of the sacred magic. Coronation trials cost one trial prompt and 100LP from the rootling transferring its magic to a new creation. The parent rootling is crowning a new rootling with some of its own magic, so some LP is spent in the process. The animal who has been crowned then takes on their new rootling form. You can find guidelines for rootling designs here. In short, coronation rootlings may present features from two animals who share a vincinity (or just one), will present an earthen gift, and will display a lumesse flame.

Temple Born
Rootlings can use the ancient temples to create a new rootling for a higher LP cost. Rootlings can choose to invest all the lumesse for these creations themselves, or they can team up in groups of two and split the cost between them. Temples also require one prompt-based artwork to be completed per submission. Temples manifest baby rootlings as "seedlings," and these may bear different traits depending on the creation tier. See the temples page for details about how much these tiers cost, and what bonuses are available for each one. Temple born rootlings have access to folktale traits (anatomical properties of creatures seen in folklore and fairytales), and any animal features from different parts of the globe.

Buying or Trading
Rootling characters may also be obtained by buying or trading with another player. Rootling designs may be sold by the group admins, or by designated players on special occasions. Players cannot create rootling designs to sell without special designation by a game admin. Rootling designs that were obtained through purchase may be resold at a later date, however. Rootlings may also be traded amongst players and various artists for other rootlings or non-game characters. Rootlings may also be exchanged for artwork.
